Kicking back on a hot summer afternoon, the subject has just received her copy of the 1953 Anniversary Enthusiast. Her 1948 WLA serves her well as both transportation and relaxation. The curious station attendant observes from the shadows, no doubt wishing for a moment with this beautiful enthusiast.
Licensed Harley-Davidson artist David Uhl began painting in 1998. His storied career now spans 20 years, during which time he has produced hundreds of works. He has magnificently captured the rich history of The Motor Company, transforming timeless archival imagery into masterpieces in oil on canvas.
One of his most recognizable pieces ever, “The Enthusiast” was created as a tribute to Harley-Davidson’s 100th Anniversary in 2003 and perhaps foretold the increasing popularity of the woman rider. Since that time, this original painting, measuring 48″x60″ has been the property of The Motor Company. The print version of this piece is Harley-Davidson’s bestselling print edition piece.
As David states, “I remember starting this piece of work thinking that I wanted to capture the wind and light of a hot dusty summer afternoon, almost making the viewer thirst in a way for cool relief. The method of applying the initial shadow shapes with a huge brush gave me the blustery movement that set the rhythm for the entire composition. The “Light” was achieved by notes of THICK opaque strokes defining transparent shadow shapes. This contrast gave me the essential depth I was looking for, without sacrificing the loose impressionistic feel of the initial block in. This piece of work flowed from me like a familiar tune, never out of pitch. I wish all my works could breeze into existence with the cadence of this piece. I consider it one of my finest pieces to date.”
In an extraordinary show of support for MDA, this stunning painting will be offered for sale during the live auction in Milwaukee.
Harley art collectors everywhere would be thrilled to have this historically significant work of art in their collection. The painting is framed in a beautiful custom hand-made frame.
